


HITOYOGIRI - Lecture and Demonstration with Alcvin Ryūzen Ramos

Join Alcvin Ryūzen Ramos for an in-depth introduction to the hitoyogiri, the direct ancestor of the shakuhachi flute that is well known today. This year marks the 400 year death Anniversary of Omori Sokun, the first pioneer of hitoyogiri in the Edo period. Alcvin will give a lecture on the history of this forgotten instrument and demonstrate its unique sound with an intimate performance in the traditional tatami room at SaBi Tea Arts.

About the Educator:
Born and trained in Japan in the classical Zen shakuhachi tradition, Alcvin also studied shakuhachi construction with several of Japan's finest makers. He is now currently studying with Miura Ryūho in Akita. Alcvin lives on the Sunshine Coast of BC, where he teaches and makes shakuhachi flutes and bamboo-inspired jewelry in his workshop in Madeira Park.
